Compression refers to the amount of pounds needed to compress a piece of foam by 25% and still have it bounce back to its original thickness. For instance, a 4" thick foam piece that requires 33 lbs. to compress it by 1" and have it return to 4" has a compression rating of 33 lbs. (or ILD). When purchasing foam sheets, they are sold per sheet rather than per yard. It's recommended to avoid using a box cutter to open the foam; instead, a ballpoint pen or pencil can be used for a safer method.
